Power Apps, Power Automate, and the Power Platform for Oil & Gas
We've built several Power Apps for Operators over the years and they've proven useful for both automation and data capture. They can add structure to processes that have outgrown spreadsheets and emails, and we've got a few case studies that show how they save time and money.
Spotfire is launching a batch of new SKUs with tweaked naming (Spotfire Desktop became Spotfire Analytics, Server became Enterprise, etc.). The rumors we've heard about pricing changes areā¦..substantial.
Spotfire 14.5
Announced via webinar, expected to be released in the next few weeks. This will the first new version since June 2024, and it looks pretty substantial. (Note that it's an Innovation aka short-term support version. The next LTS version will be 14.6 in the fall.) They're making the new authoring experience the default, adding enhancements to trellised box plots, implementing MFA for Snowflake connections, and (especially nice for O&G) allowing custom marker shapes to make it easier to show well spots on a map, like dry holes, gas v oil, etc. They're also releasing more O&G-focused add-on visualizations as a part of the new "Data Science" SKU: well logs, gun barrel plots, wellbore diagrams, etc.
Enverus for sale?
Rumors are out that Enverus's private equity backers have launched a sale process for the energy data and software giant. They're reportedly aiming for $6B, a 15x multiple on reported EBITDA of $400mm. Enverus publicly announced that their ARR was over $500mm two years ago, so either they have *very* high margins or have grown a fair bit since then. We're guessing a bit of both.
Power BI May release
Associated with Microsoft's Build conference, there's another big batch of stuff this month. Biggest things for O&G users look like more improvements to Azure Maps, improvements to line charts and slicers, and more Copilot integration. One potentially very big piece is the introduction of "Translytical" workflows, which is Microsoft-speak for the ability to write back to data sources. Important feature, but a horrifically Dracula-esque portmanteau.
