Intermediate Power BI on SAGA Wisdom
We're getting great feedback on our new Intermediate Power BI class on SAGA Wisdom and some recent edits to the videos have made them even better. If you haven't had a chance to look through our deep dives on Power Query, DAX, Mapping, and more - take a look!
Another month, another batch. Biggest features look to be the new "Path" layer in Azure Maps visual (useful for stick maps), a new Text Slicer, and more Copilot features for mobile apps and email subscriptions. There are also more and more Fabric features coming out like the new OneLake Catalog.
Power BI pricing increase next April
Down with inflation! Or should we say up? Microsoft is increasing Power BI Pro and Premium Per User pricing for the first time since it was launched a decade ago. In April 2025, Pro licenses will rise from $10/user/mo to $14/user/mo (while PPU goes from $20 to $24). Spotfire, Tableau, and other competing tools have also seen material price increases recently, so Power BI Pro remains a good deal in the grand scheme of things. Regardless, we appreciate pricing transparency - Spotfire pricing is no longer on their website unfortunately.
SSMS 21 out in Preview
We don't normally talk about SQL Server Management Studio (aka SSMS, a ubiquitous query-writing tool), but this is kind of a big deal. This is the first truly-new version of SSMS in….ever? Features include 64-bit memory, dark mode, a better installer, etc. Microsoft is upgrading to the more modern Visual Studio backbone and opening a path towards a SQL Copilot natively in SSMS, which would be really, really nice.
